On a a beautiful September Sunday, in the heart of Oxfordshire, the OWs descended upon the iconic Huntercombe Golf Club.
With dryer weather than 2023, the course was in belting form, as was their breakfast.
The day started with 11 holes of Foursomes (most convenient routing) in the morning, where the a colossal tussle took place at the top of the billing, with Society Captain James Harper and partner Jag Bhabra, falling half a point short to Leese Challenge Cup winners Alex Wilkinson and John Kelly.
Kelly and Wilkinson also stealing a "friendly" match play game on the last. The course showed glimpses of its teeth; even under the morning dew, played firm and the iconic meandering Moghuls and greens looked to a real challenge of mind, will and skill.
After a hearty lunch, and some impeccable claret, the Gents took off in twos for the afternoon singles.
With various trophies on the line for Scratch, Handicap, Age group and cumulative performance (from the Spring meeting), the mood was, as always, light.
Perennial Winner of trophies, Henry Somerset took home a pair, one being for excelling (and turning up to) both the Spring and Autumn Meets, with James Harper coming up shy.
John Denham bagged a pair, with a terrific 76 and 40 points, as did John Kelly to add to his morning victory in the pairs.
Well done to all! (full results below)
