The O.W.G.S Pairs League Cup (known as the O’Doubles Golf Open)
The O.W.G.S Pairs League Cup (known as the O’Doubles Golf Open) 2022 UPDATE
This is an exciting addition to all the current O.W.G.S. meetings and matches in the fixture list which will continue as normal. It will be very attractive to all golfers of all ages and all skill levels; handicapping will even out any disparities.
It has two principal aims:-
To widen the opportunities for more OW golf in a semi-formal structure.
To encourage more OW golfers, occasional or otherwise to join the O.W.G.S., especially younger ones who don’t necessarily have as much spare time due to work and family commitments.
We also encourage those who belong to clubs, especially well recognised ones, to participate as this gives OWs who are not members of a club the chance to play the occasional game on a good course. Where you live is less important than wanting to play.
TO PLAY IN THE O’DOUBLES OPEN YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF THE O.W.G.S. SO IF YOU HAVEN’T JOINED ALREADY, please apply to join, using the O.W.G.S. web site
The O.W.G.S. is waiving new joiners’ subscriptions for 2022.
Please don’t forget the generous offer provided by The Springs Golf Club to all members of the O.W.G.S. as this is an excellent course to play matches on.
The matches should all played in pairs, so when applying make sure that each pair identifies who their partner is and who is the Team Leader. When applying to play include your handicap, age, home course, if you have one, and preferred geographic playing area. If you can’t find a partner, or your partner drops out, then play as one against a pair, or if only 2 of you can play, then have a singles match, but remember the principal aim is to meet other O.W.G.S. members, this isn’t a way to subsidise your social golf!
This competition is open to all members of the OWGS. The matches are all played in pairs, so when applying make sure that each pair identifies who their partner is and who is the Team Leader. When applying to play include your handicap, age, home course if you have one and preferred geographic playing area.
Each Group will contain 6 pairs. Unless there are specific requests, agreed by all group members, the Hon Sec will allocate Pairs/Teams to a group. Each pair plays all others in their group, i.e. up to 5 matches per group. Matches will be played on mutually agreed courses.
The OWGS will subsidise the green fees for younger/newer members up to £30 per round, or half the green fee, so long as it is agreed with Hon Sec in advance if the amount is over £30 a head. The OWGS expects team leaders to exercise discretion over eligibility.
Scoring: 3 points for a win, 1 point for a half. All matches to be played by 30th September.
At the end of September the winners of each group will play a semi-final, matches to be drawn, followed by the final for that year’s cup.
Each pair has a nominated leader to arrange the matches, agree date, time, course and format. All formats considered but preferred is over 18 holes, 9 holes are allowed. Suggestions include, 4 ball, 4 ball better ball, St Andrews’ Greensomes, Foursomes. All matches off handicap.
One team leader per match needs to contact the OW Society office with the team names and match results which will be updated on the OW Society web site.
To enter, a pair must submit their team’s name, their names and handicaps to the Hon Sec.
If you do not have a partner, you can ask the Hon Sec to find you one.
